European leaders regroup after being excluded from Ukraine negotiations.

European leaders will hold their own emergency summit in Paris today as U.S. officials get ready to meet with Russia this week to discuss resolving the bloodshed in Ukraine. In reaction to President Trump’s initiation of talks with Moscow, which seem to have little bearing on Europe or Ukraine specifically, they intend to organize a coordinated response.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged British troops to help ensure Ukraine’s long-term security on the eve of the Paris negotiations, citing the need to dissuade Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to European authorities, Trump is close to signing an agreement that would allow Russia to acquire a fifth of Ukraine and the remainder in the coming years. They think that dismantling the NATO alliance is Putin’s ultimate objective.

Security: Fears that the United States may turn away from Europe and side with Moscow have been heightened by recent statements made by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance. That, according to analysts, would give Putin an unprecedented win that would surpass any of his goals in Ukraine.

No deal: President Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed over the weekend that unless Kyiv was given a seat at the table, Ukraine would “never” accept a peace agreement reached between the United States and Russia. Additionally, Zelensky turned down Trump’s offer for Ukraine to cede half of its mineral riches in return for American assistance.
